7 Cabinet Door Styles for Your IKEA SEKTION Kitchen

IKEA SEKTION cabinets are a great starting point that include smart sizing, solid structure, and widely available. But the doors IKEA sells with them? You might want more options and that’s where Kokeena comes in.

We offer a wide range of door styles including shaker, slim shaker, slab, v-groove, natural wood, solid wood, and brushed aluminum as custom replacements, built specifically to fit SEKTION frames. (Still need help choosing your own style? Read our guide on how to choose custom cabinet door styles.)

Shaker

A flat recessed center panel framed by square rails and stiles, the most recognized cabinet profile, and still one of the most adaptable.

Best for: Any SEKTION kitchen that needs to feel pulled-together without committing to a specific era, from modern to farmhouse.

Design notes: Kokeena colors do most of the heavy lifting here. Same profile, completely different kitchen depending on your finish choice. Hardware pairings are flexible.

Slim Shaker

Same construction as the classic shaker, but with narrower rails and stiles, less visual “weight,” and more refinement.

Best for: SEKTION kitchens leaning modern or contemporary, or anywhere you want the shaker profile without the bulk.

Design notes: Perfect for smaller kitchens where a standard shaker can feel busy. Works especially well in two-tone designs with different upper and lower colors.

Slab

Completely flat, no frame, no detailing. The most minimal option in the lineup.

Best for: Scandinavian (obviously!), modern, and contemporary SEKTION kitchens,  or anywhere you want the cabinetry to recede and let countertops, tile, or lighting take the lead.

Design notes: Easy to clean and looks strong in matte finishes or natural wood. Kokeena hardware carries more visual weight here since there's no door detail to anchor the eye.

V-Groove

A flat-front door with a routed groove detail along the inside edge of the frame that offers subtle texture and depth.

Best for: SEKTION kitchens that want more interest than a slab but less structure than a shaker. A natural fit for farmhouse, cottage, and transitional styles.

Design notes: The groove catches light differently throughout the day, giving the kitchen a quiet liveliness. In painted finishes, it reads as a fine shadow line. Not widely available for IKEA systems from our competitors!

Natural Wood

A door in real wood veneer or natural grain, showing the material rather than covering it.

Best for: Organic modern, Japandi, and Scandinavian SEKTION kitchens in any direction that benefits from warmth and natural texture.

Design notes: No two doors are identical, and that's the appeal. Light oak and alder are popular choices right now, pairing well with stone countertops and matte black or aged brass hardware. Order samples from Kokeena to see the natural variation.

The Ashland

Kokeena's solid wood door. Not veneer, not paint-grade, and built from real hardwood.

Best for: SEKTION kitchens where longevity is the priority. Our premier door, The Ashland can be sanded and refinished years down the road, something veneers and painted doors can't offer.

Design notes: There's a weight and presence to the Ashland that other door types can’t replicate. Best suited to kitchens where the cabinetry is meant to be the focal point.

Brushed Aluminum

Want the stainless steel look without the stainless price tag? Kokeena’s Brushed Aluminum is made of actual brushed aluminum that looks like stainless steel, because it’s real aluminum, not a film or surface finish.

Best for: Modern, industrial, and chef-inspired SEKTION kitchens. The right call for anyone who wants a kitchen that looks genuinely one-of-a-kind.

Design notes: Works as a full-kitchen statement or mixed with painted or wood doors for contrast. Pairs naturally with stainless appliances and stone or concrete countertops.

Narrowing down your options

Start with the aesthetic you want, then factor in maintenance preferences, then look at what your countertops and hardware are doing. When in doubt, order samples first.
