Clients of NorthSide Kitchen Designs (NSKD) wanted to upgrade the older room configurations of their 900-square-foot first floor. To accomplish this, they had to vault the ceiling, add new windows and insulation, and completely gut and remodel their kitchen, bathroom, and primary bedroom.
Challenges
Covid-19 regulations and manufacturing delays (by others) presented some challenges, but nothing the team couldn’t overcome. The option to use Kokeena custom cabinetry on Ikea cabinetry boxes and components alleviated budget challenges while still providing a custom kitchen.
Solutions
NSKD utilized the Old English door that featured an ogee edge detail with a recessed flat panel to add a touch more traditional feel to the new kitchen, an otherwise very transitional new space. The client had the color selected before they ever met, a long-standing dream of a Kensington blue kitchen.
Overall, careful space planning allowed for a complete flip to better utilize natural light and ease of egress through the home. Three small bedrooms became two, with one being a grander primary bedroom.
Results
The finished space is now a well-appointed, well balanced transitional space adding warmth and character to a previously void mid-century ranch.
“Kokeena was patient and provided great assistance making sure all the necessary components were accounted for and sized accurately for ease of installation, pairing perfectly with the Ikea boxes and cabinetry components,” says Smith. “They also provided excellent customer service to guarantee a smooth delivery.”
